New Name of Saudi Pak Commercial Bank

Special business resolution is going to pass in 15th Annual General Meeting of share holders that is going to be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 that"The name of the company be changed from Saudi Pak Commercial Bank Limited to SILKBANK LIMITED".
Every body is invited to comment that why owners of the banks are going to change such name of the banks that shows from its name a Pakistani or Muslim Bank? Yes you got right Muslim Commercial Bank has already changed its name as MCB Bank Limited.

Saudi Pak is a name relating to the countries and nothing to do with muslim.Let us stop mixing up muslim or islam with the name of a country as nations die away with the passage of time.
You have a lot of so called islaimic banks and you know how islamic they are so lets stop getting a bad name for muslim/islamic.Like it or not they have already have a bad name.
In any case, former saudi pak bank is locally owned by a private group now. -

Saudi Pak Commercial Bank was a subsidary of "Saudi Pak Investment Comapny (SAPICO)". After take over of the bank (by a consortium led By Mr. Shoukat Tarin Ex-President of Saudi Pak, currently adivsor to PM on finance), new owners were supposed to change the name of the bank.

changing of name is not of matter of islam. actually its new management intention. The point of cosideration is that there is a good will of a name. Then why new management want to change the name of such banks that shows a link with islamic world. However, its pure management intention and we have to accept it.

It may or may not be factually true but the name SILKBANK conveys an impression that the bank has or is expecting a strong China or East Asia banking or shareholder connection. Also, I will say that SILKBANK - like perhaps the name MyBank - is probably going to take a while for conventionally minded people to like the name. Its just the matter of change and innovation. Banking sector has transfered itself from conventional to modern trends. Clients also want to have a one window operation when they enter into a financial institution. As per the name shows, it will provide smooth and silky services to its prestigeous clients. Hope it will also change the market trends and people would accept this change in a very short span of time. Pakistan holds fifth position worldwide when it comes to its banking sector. Even in these worst financial conditions, we are having top seed rating.I wish such a change strengthen our banking sector even more.
